Lets face it, we all get bored from time to time, I have tried to comply a list of fun and exciting hobbies & activities for men (trigger warning). I will keep adding to this list so check up on this blog from time to time when in need of inspiration.


1. Playing an instrument

Pretty obvious, you can pick up a guitar or a flute for under 50 dollars at your local music store. The key is to see if this will intrest you before spending your hard earned earnings on it first. There are some great music learning websites free of charge found on google, and also instructional videos on youtube.

2. Hiking 

Its healthy and best of all, FREE. Go alone or bring a friend with you. Most cities have parks or trails that you can explore or even go into the woods behind your house. Make sure you wear supportive shoes so you dont twist your ankle. I suggest looking at google maps for trails close to your home and planning the route ahead of time. Make sure to bring water since the hiking will dehydrate you in warm weather.

3. Woodworking 

With tools found in most garages and some scrap wood you can start neat little projects. Building a shelf, a stool, a bench, a bow and arrows, or even a patio. Depending on how much money you want to invest, woodworking is one the the skills in life that will save you a lot of money in the long run. n addition to giving you a useful skill, many woodworking hobbyists report lower stress levels and increased patience.

4. Guns & Bows ( target practise )

One of my all time favourite hobbies, even though I live in europe where gun laws are strict. You can get around this by purchasing an Air rifle (which by the way can be more powerful than a real firearm) from pyramidair.com and other various websites. Most eu countries have no restrictions on air rifles and rifles over 100 dollars shoot straight. Like woodworking, marksmanship takes patience and puts you in almost like a zen type state. Shooting arrows and becoming your hometown legolas is just as satisfying. Bows can be heavy on the wallet but you can use your woodworking skills to build your own!

5. Robotics and electronics

Electronic learning kits and parts are very cheap to buy, for example from dealextreme.com. Platforms such as Arduino and Rasberry pi are very affordable (under 50 dollars) and you can learn how to plan build and operate them on thousands of free youtube videos and online articles. Learning electronics is not only fun but very rewarding since you learn how things like lamps and computers work and save alot on repairmen coming to your house.

6. Paintball & Airsoft. 

Whats more fun than lighting up friends on xbox live and yelling profanities at them? doing that in real life. Most cities have paintball/airsoft fields that offer rental guns and gear. You can have tons of fun with friends, or even just go alone and play with strangers that end up being your friends at the end of the day. Just remember to bring eye protection.

7. Longboarding & skateboarding. 

Complete sets usually cost around 100-300 for a quality product, but you can also buy cheaper market boards if you just are planning on cruising. Longboarding is adrenaline pumping fun, going down an asphalt hill at high speeds with cars everywhere, whats not to love. If you live in a flat area go to your local skatepark and learn how to pull off new tricks, the internet is filled with instructional videos.

8. Competitive online gaming

Lets face it, most of us spend a lot of time on the computer, either gaming or surfing the web. Go to your favourite games community forums and try to look for a team to join. If you are good enough you can practise, compete and even win money doing this. Most new games have matchmaking such as CS:GO so you can learn the rules with strangers and finetune your skills without getting laughed at in tryouts. Start your own team and invite your friends to join. Competitive gaming is a ton of fun and you can find youtubers / twitch streamers that you can learn from.

9. Start an online website or blog

Do you have knowledge about a certain subject / field? Share it with others. Starting a blog is completely free. Write creatively and let others learn from you. You can start an online e-commerce site selling your DIY creations or services. The internet is your oyster, the best market in the world. Join a community of bloggers and get feedback on your work. Dont worry about getting viewers at first, as long as you enjoy doing it , they will come in due time.

10. Build models / legos

Whatever you feel comftorable with, everyone has legos lying around from their childhood / Children. Or buy models such as planes ships cars and tanks and enjoy hours worth of time consuming fun. There are different kits depending on skill level and the equipment available, some models have pieces that click together and only 50-100 parts and BAM a finished panzer tank with shiny paint ready from the box. And more advanced ones require exacto knives and special glue to hold pieces together. And you get to paint the pieces yourself (paintbrush airbrush whatever you like) Revell dominates the market in my opinion and they are very affordable and good bang for your buck.
